BBC Flew In For Dillinger
What a night the John Dillinger Died For You was! Almost 300 people saw excerpts of the play in a live trailer, hey, if movies can do them why not plays? Then Melanie Kibbler and Ben Campanas re-enacted the death of Dillinger from Anna Sage's point of view in front of the Biograph.
Jaclyn Jensen and Kristen Walker managed to get shot as innocent bystanders too! (The fact left out of all movie versions of the story- including Johnny Depp's).
Covered by the Tribune, made critic's choice at Metromix and Red Eye - but the girls got a big surprise when they were interviewed by the BBC who had flown in for the event.
You can see the play Friday and Saturday nights at 8PM (doors open, show starts promptly at 8:15) at THE LIAR'S CLUB, 1665 W FULLERTON Free parking both sides of the street! $10, and you can stay for the music and dancing after. See the supernatural and ghost stories of Chicago re-enacted by the women in the stories!

The John Dillinger Died For You Society hosts the 75th anniversary gathering on Wednesday at Lincoln Station, 2432 N. Lincoln Ave., 773-472-8100. Events begin at 8 p.m. with a Dillinger re-enactment, followed by a procession to his death spot.

It's the same story every year.
On the evening of July 22, Mike Dietz heads to Lincoln Park, bagpipes in tow, to set up shop at a bar near the Biograph Theater. Around 10:15 p.m. he straps on the pipes and joins a procession of bar-goers -- ranging from a dozen to more than one hundred -- down Lincoln Avenue toward the Biograph. The crowd strolls at a respectful pace until it arrives at the alley just south of the theater. The group lingers, as its ringleader, Richard Crowe, says some words, a prayer or both as the group laments the date of the night in 1934 that John Dillinger was shot and died in that very alley.
For Crowe and Dietz, the July 22 procession is more than an annual ritual. It's Dillinger Day, hosted by a motley crew known as The John Dillinger Died For You Society.

Words will be spoken by Michael Flores on "the place of John Dillinger in pop culture & modern society". He has read the PUBLIC ENEMY script and he is not happy.
And Richard Crowe, famous Chicago folklorist and ghosthunter, will talk on "the supernatural legacy & legends of John Dillinger".
Note: This event may be filmed for newsreels! Be prepared to protect your identity by wearing a disguise, if necessary.

Chicago's Summer Of Dillinger
A play about supernatural Chicago that includes the true story of John Dillinger in Chicago never before told in popular culture, a bagpipe procession to Dillinger's death spot are activities taking place this summer in Chicago. The 75th Anniversary of Dillinger's death is being commemorated
for the 25th year running by the JOHN DILLINGER DIED FOR YOU SOCIETY (JDDFYS) with special guests the cast of THE BRIDES OF GHOST HUNTER RICHARD CROWE : JOHN DILLINGER EDITION.
FBI head Hoover was overly protective of the agencies image and he would assign FBI agents to film productions to make sure Dillinger's demise was covered exactly the way he approved. Dillinger is often shown robbing banks in Chicago, shooting at FBI agents at the Biograph Theater. "All this is false", says Michael Flores the co-head of the JDDFYS and director of the play in a gravely southern voice, " He was in Chicago because this was a safe city for him. His lawyer was a former Il. States Attorney. He was unarmed at the Biograph. The FBI fired into the crowd hitting other people as the patrons left the theater". The play recreates Dillinger's story thru the eyes of the women in his life and it is set to run all summer. The play also presents the gangster and ghost stories of Chicago in the popular punk rock bar THE LIAR'S CLUB, all told for the first time from the view of the women in the stories.
" I wish I could say the new Johnny Depp film on Dillinger presents all the facts, but it doesn't. The FBI propaganda remains strong, " says the real life Richard Crowe whom the play is based on, "This summer the truth will be told in Chicago".
